Downloading large files — what you need to know
If you're downloading a large file (10 GB or more), we strongly recommend not using your web browser for this.
Why browsers struggle with large downloads
Web browsers are great for everyday tasks, but they aren't built for downloading very large files reliably. With large downloads, you may experience:
- The download failing or getting stuck partway through
- The browser crashing or restarting and losing all progress
- A corrupted file that won't open after downloading
- No ability to resume if your connection drops
This isn't a problem with our service, it's simply a known limitation of how web browsers handle large amounts of data.
What we recommend instead
Use a dedicated download manager, a type of application specifically designed for large file transfers. These tools offer significant advantages over browsers:
- Pause and resume to pick up exactly where you left off if your connection drops
- Automatic retry restarts the download if it fails, without starting from scratch
- Faster speeds, many use multiple connections simultaneously
- File integrity checks verify the file is complete and undamaged
Download managers are widely available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. We recommend searching for one that suits your operating system and reviewing user feedback before installing, as you would with any third-party software.
