Reauthorizing with the M365 global administrator
This article walks through reauthorizing Datto SaaS Protection for M365. M365 global administrator privileges are required to reauthorize SaaS Protection's access to M365.
Environment
- Datto SaaS Protection for M365
- M365 Admin portal
Description
This process could adversely impact your backups if not completed properly and should only be used when directed by Datto SaaS Protection support or communicated through an official Datto SaaS Protection announcement.
IMPORTANT To prepare for Microsoft's deprecation of the Exchange Web Services (EWS) API on October 1, 2026, SaaS Protection of Exchange services will be migrated to the Microsoft Graph API by June 30th, 2026. To continue running Exchange backups, you must reauthorize your M365 accounts by May 30, 2026.
Use either of these procedures to reauthorize Datto SaaS Protection for your M365 accounts:
-
To reauthorize from the SaaS Protection Status page in Datto Partner Portal: use to reauthorize from within the Datto Partner Portal UI. If you have many organizations, this is a convenient way to see which organizations require authorization. An Unauthorized Organizations dialog displays upon accessing the SaaS Protection Status page if any organizations require reauthorization.
-
To reauthorize from the organization view in SaaS Protection: use to reauthorize from within the SaaS Protection UI. A banner displays if the organization requires reauthorization.
Use this procedure to check for unauthorized organizations and reauthorize SaaS Protection's access to their M365 tenants.
-
Log in to Datto Partner Portal as an administrator. Click Manage to access the SaaS Protection Status page:

-
The Unauthorized Organizations dialog displays any organizations that need to be reauthorized. (If the dialog does not display, you do not have any unauthorized organizations.)
-
A separate browser tab opens where you are prompted to log in to M365. Log in to your M365 tenant as a global administrator.
-
In the Permissions requested dialog, grant access to SaaS Protection's Backupify application by clicking Accept.

-
SaaS Protection is reauthorized.
NOTE If the reauthorized organization still displays in the Unauthorized Organizations dialog, reload the page.
Repeat this procedure as needed to reauthorize additional M365 tenants (for your other SaaS Protection M365 organizations).
When working with an organization in SaaS Protection, a banner displays if reauthorization is needed.
NOTE Access the organization view from the SaaS Protection Status page by clicking its Organization Name link.
To reauthorize SaaS Protection's access to the M365 tenant:
-
A separate browser tab opens where you are prompted to log in to M365. Log in to your M365 tenant as a global administrator.
-
In the Permissions requested dialog, grant access to SaaS Protection's Backupify application by clicking Accept.

-
SaaS Protection is reauthorized and you are returned to the organization view in SaaS Protection.
NOTE If the banner message still displays, reload the page.
